Fond memories for father and son.

My son and I at the New Orleans Saints preseason game in 2008. His team got to run some plays at half time before the entire Super Dome crowd. It was so much fun for both of us.

It's all about the kids

Being a good dad is something that I take very seriously. My own father died when I was nine years old. I have been blessed to have a great wife and and a wonderful son and daughter. It takes some work and effort to be a good father to my children but it is worth the effort. If you don't have children but would like to one day, I hope that you realize that having children is a tremendous responsibility. Make sure that you are ready to put aside your own needs for the best for your kids. This may sound like a bold statement to some people. What? Put the childrens' needs above my own? Yes. It's certainly alright for fathers to take time for themselves with fishing or golf with buddies and that sort of thing. What I'm saying is don't let your golf game or work even take away the chances and opportunities you have to be with your kids. I went to see a movie called "Old Dogs" recently. It was a silly movie and maybe not the best but I did like when old man Robin Williams realized he'd made a big mistake when he chose a career move to Japan instead of the chance to make it work with his former wife and long lost kids. Yes, some things in life are more important than making the extra dollar. I thought that was a good message to send to dads. Sure, we have to work to provide for our families but making time for the family is a must for a happy life for you and your kids.

"Any man can be a father,
but it takes a special person to be a dad."

Being a good father requires the same thing that being a good disciple does, the ability to die to self. For another inspiring Dad movie, you should see Courageous. The sacrifices you are making for your family are just that, courageous!
